You will find that the docs and mailing lists suggest using a "plain
vanilla" kernel for building RTAI. The RH RPMs are *definitely* not in
that category, and patches will not apply cleanly. Look at the .rej
files to determine what did not apply, then hand-modify the offending
files. You can generate your own patch set with those changes.
I've recently done this with a plain vanilla kernel with Mandrake
patches to implement XFS and a few other features. It was definitely
more trouble than trying an unpatched/unmodified kernel, and trying a
full distro kernel is definitely more trouble still.
