rtai-3.0-r4 installition on IBM r40e

hi, all

i try to install rtai on my notebook IBM r40e:

1: first, install redhat9.0 on my notebook, it's ok

2: i choose the same kernel version for rtai----2.4.20

3: patch the kernel with rthal12-2.4.20.patch, set up a link to the new src directory

4: copy the configuration file of RH9.0 to /usr/src/linux, cp /boot/config-2.4.20-8 /usr/src/linux

5: run make menuconfig, choose adeos support and loadable modules, then make dep, make bzImage, make modules, make modules_install, mkinitrd

6: copy bzImage to /boot, copy initrd.img to /boot, change grub.conf.

7: reboot, choose the new kernel.

but the note book halted in 

partition check
hda

when i do the same thing in a normal desktop pc, it's fine.

what's wrong with me?
