Less than half I/O-Speed from RTAI patch?

Hi,
i see the bad performance also when no I/O is done: When 2 user space single threaded
programs do make simple calculations on the SMP box (dual P III 1000), for some minutes
the load average is not the expected 1; it's around 20 and growing! It takes about a minute
for a keystroke to take effect although top shows no reason of this high load.
After the 2 programs terminated the system reacts normally and the loadaverage is near zero.
Any ideas?
Regards,
Rolf
