can a fusion thread terminate the app?

I've tried calling _exit() from a hardened thread in a userspace app, and it
doesn't seem to work. Is there any way to make a fusion thread terminate an
app, thus shutting down all its threads? I'm building in a mechanism to
ensure that no fusion thread runs away with he system and locks up Linux, so
on timeout I want the app to terminate.
