Problem solved.

Thank you for the help, especially  Pawel Studencki.

Compiling RTAI using your configure script brought the latency test back to 
life, but we have still not understood why it worked. Working on that.

By linking our application statically to librtai (as done by testsuite), also 
our own code started working again.
