Arcnet drivers

While I am spamming the mailing list, I thought I would start another
thread about questions I have on arcnet card drivers. The problem is I
am just about clueless when it comes to Linux and device drivers to
begin with (I am a native windows programmer). Through google I have
found this on a RTnet mailing list archive:
http://www.mail-archive.com/rtnet-users@lists.sourceforge.net/msg00616.html
I have attempted to contact Mr. Dallefrate to see if he ever made any
progress with Jan's suggestions, but so far no response. Mr. Dallefrate
does have a conference paper out there on the web ("Development of robot
controllers based on PC hardware and open source software") - in it he
demonstrates that he has used RTAI 3.2 (with kernel 2.6.10) and
communicated with a device (the PA-10 robotic arm) over an arcnet
interface (exactly what we are trying to accomplish!).
If no one has specific experience with the arcnet drivers, could anyone
provide me with something of a roadmap or examples on how to make
drivers run in real-time? Even some introductory reading would be
beneficial.
Best regards,
J.D. Yamokoski
