I guess I just want to understand the advantage of attempting an ARCnet port 
over using existing RTNet ethernet or CanFestival Can drivers to accomplish 
the same thing (with different hardware)

I've been in the embedded control marketplace for a few years now and I 
haven't ever seen ARCnet come up until now, so I'm a little skeptical of it.
But it certainly could just be existing in some area of the market we don't 
deal with.
